Sunday 24 November 2013

Most of the bars and cafes on the beaches are built out of bamboo. We saw this one going up on Keri beach.

This is a shot of Arambol, taken from Yoyo's restaurant.

Between Arambol and Mandrem there is a little garden that you walk through to get to the beach

You go over a little bridge and come out at the End of the World.

We found this guy washed up today.

Had a cup of Chai at Anjuna flea market last night.

Thursday 21 November 2013

We got a delivery this morning. You see these piles of red bricks everywhere, we had to move our bikes so they could drop this lot off. Luckily we were up as we were about to go to yoga.

Found this little guy on the balcony today.

We drove to Anjuna for the day market yesterday for a bit of shopping

And we've been out on the bikes again!

Sunday 17 November 2013

I took the scooter down to Anjuna to visit the water park there with Ulla and Toby.

I don't know if its related to the one in Tower Park.

View from the bridge crossing to Siolim

I stopped to take a photo of this church on the way back from Anjuna.

Saw these guys chilling on the other side of the road.

Sarah's friend Kathryn has come to stay with us in Arambol for a few weeks, she has made her way round via America and Japan among other places. We went for dinner at Cookie Walla's.

Thursday 14 November 2013

Our landlord told us they were going to be celebrating Pooja in front of the house yesterday, then just before the sun went down a box of fireworks went off outside our window. We went outside and were given fistfuls of rice crispie kind of things, which I promptly got stuck into.

Monday 11 November 2013

We took a walk up to the Banyan tree, there is a massive Om on a rock above the pathway. Unfortunately we walked up at sundown, so had to walk back in the dark after conversing with 'Baba' for a short while. He's from Leicester apparently.

On the way up to the Banyan tree is sweet lake

This is taken from the other side of Arambol beach, looking up to the hillisde

We've started doing yoga with Toby in the mornings on a rooftop.

We saw a rock and roll band the other night playing some old favourites.

We've enjoyed lots of sunsets

Here's Sarah trying out the mosquito net

Saturday 9 November 2013

A few more photos of us and our house, here's me making up some green tea in the kitchen. You just boil up some leaves with some cinnamon and cardamom pods.

Out on the veranda

This is  me chilling out in the lounge. We have decorated a little bit

Here we are at Vagator beach

And this is me on the scooter!

There are a couple of these little huts in the garden where we live. Not really sure what they are for

And this is the shower. Notice the handy mains switch for switching on the hot water.

Friday 8 November 2013

Diwali has started, and our landlord came and put up some lanterns for us.

He also brought us some sweets (my mouth found the plate before my camera did).

At the start of Diwali we started seeing people building these papier mache dudes by the side of the road, then we were driving into Arambol one night and heard a big PA (my bass sense was tingling) and crowds of people. There were loads of the papier macher dudes and they had strings attached that could move their heads and arms and swords and whatever. They were playing what sounded like 70s Sci Fi film soundtracks over this tinny PA and the whole thing felt like the bit at the end of the Power Rangers when all the big monsters fight.

Later that night they all drove out of Arambol, with the music playing at full volume. A slightly more familiar tradition was celebrated on the 5th November.

Tuesday 5 November 2013

So we've been getting out on the scooter a bit. Driving is a bit different here.

Fortunately we've got Ulla and Toby to show us round, as it can get pretty hectic around the cities. We drove to Mapusa to go to the market.

Came home with a couple of sacks of Bombay mix.

And we drove to Calangute this weekend, which turned out to be a lot bigger and busier than Arambol.
